Edmonton – Join acclaimed musician and folk-fest favourite Ben Sures for an evening of verse, rhythm, strings and horns Thursday, March 24 at 8pm at The Yardbird Suite (11 Tommy Banks Way).
This special performance will feature Edmonton based Sures performing re-interpreted versions of his clever and thought-provoking songs in collaboration with a cast of renowned musicians.
Local trombonist Audrey Ochoa, who is also writing, arranging and conducting the second half of the performance, will marshal the horns leading a little big band with famed saxophonists P.J. Perry, Dave Babcock and Jeremiah McDade, and trumpeters Bob Tidesel and Sergio Rodriguez.
One of Canada’s finest upright bassists, Joe Phillips (who plays with Jayne Stone and the Art of Time ensemble), rounds out the cast with vocalist/percussionist Stephanie Suchy and Sara Frank and Luke Fraser of the East Coast based Bombadils on violin and mandolin for this significant evening of music.
“When I listen to his music, I realize that if Ben Sures wasn’t sharing the view from his window, my world would be a smaller place” –Dan Cherwoniak, Producer, CBC Radio Music
